II can answer the first part of the question. Carnatic music is the traditional musical style of South India, which is more inclined to gayaki sampradaya..means inclined to vocal singing..which is more complex style because of the intrinsic gamakas, massive number of compositions and intricate rhythmic patterns No or raagas. Hindustani style is of Persian origin and follows more instrumental based.
