There are also a few open source versions around which can be used to develop/run these programs on platforms other than windows (like macOS and linux). ASP.NET is a technology that allows you to build websites using this .NET framework. Basically it's a framework built on top of the .NET framework. It can also be used with all the various programming languages that have a .NET compiler and can also be run on Windows/Mac/Linux servers that have a version of the .NET run time installed. Some common languages used to build .NET applications are: C# (C-sharp), VB.NET (Visual Basic) and managed C++. There are literally dozens of others though. read less
