लेफ्टिनेंट ने सुना था कि वजीर अली अफगानिस्तान के शासक वाहे - ज़मा को हिंदुस्तान पर आक्रमण करने का निमंत्रण दे रहा है ताकि वह अंग्रेजी शासन की जड़े खिला सके। कर्नल ने उसे बताया कि इस उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए वजीर अली अफगानिस्तान के शासक को दिल्ली भी बुला चुका है। साथ ही बंगाल के नवाब का भाई शमसुउददौला भी हिंदुस्तान के अंग्रेजी शासन पर आक्रमण करवाना चाहता है। इस प्रकार अवध से बंगाल तक सभी अंग्रेजी शासन को नष्ट करने का मन बना चुके हैं। इसी कारण लेफ्टिनेंट को लगा कि कंपनी के खिलाफ सारे हिंदुस्तान में एक लहर दौड़ गई है।
