Let the present age of P and Q be 5x and 7x respectively.
P's age 6 years later shall be 5x +6
Now, difference between Q's present age and P's age 6 years later shall be
7x - (5x + 6) = 2
7x - 5x - 6 = 2
2x - 6 = 2
2x - 6 + 6 = 2+ 6 (adding 6 both sides)
2x = 8
2x/2 = 8/2 ( dividing 2 both sides)
x= 4
Therefore present age of P and Q
P's age = 5x = 5*4 = 20
Q's age = 7x = 7*4 = 28
Total of P's and Q's age = 20 + 28 = 48
