I started teaching and training, being the head of an international student project team composed of more than a 100 undergrad students.
I completed my Masters in Physics from Univ of Maryland, Baltimore County (USA). Before continuing my Doctoral studies I had come back to India, working as a fellow in 'Teach for India' (a part of the international 'Teach for All' program) and teaching for the past 1.5 yrs at the high school level. The fellowship has made me much more aware of different teaching strategies via numerous workshops and a rigorous month long teacher training process.
I prefer to have few students at a time as a lot of personal teaching depends upon having a good rapport between the student and teacher. A long term plan and weekly plans will be followed to ensure that the objectives and goals are met. These goals will be decided based on the discussions with the students and their guardians. It will also depend heavily on the student's learning style and speed, as all minds are different! Due to this, I would generally finalize a student after seeing our compatibility based on a couple of lessons.
As a maths and science teacher, my main focus during teaching is to make the fundamentals clear and develop the "scientific thinking" temperament rather than do set-pattern problems.
