Ashwini Raghupathy

Advanced Odissi from Nrityagram


Ashwini Raghupathy is a young artist who is gaining prominence because of her work in reviving Indian traditional dance forms and giving them a twist to suit contemporary contexts. She is the director of ARPANA, an organization which deals with Indian traditional dance training, performances and dance outreach.

Performing widely since 1998, her focus over the past few years has been in engaging people to tap the benefits of dance. She has trained and worked with different organizations teaching movement to diverse groups of people. In the NGO sector she has worked with children with disabilities, women who are victims of domestic violence, tribal communities, transgenders,sex-workers etc. She has also worked with street theatre movements across Jharkand and Orissa. She was invited to perform at We Can, a campaign to End Violence Against Women, organized in Sri Lanka by Oxfam GB.

She has also been invited by several corporate organizations such as Infosys, CGI, HP etc. to use Indian dance forms as a tool for employee engagement, tapping the main benefits of dance namely: a way of relieving stress, building better teams and improving the quality of health.

Recognizing her work and contributions she was nominated in June, 2013 as a member of UNESCO�s International Dance Council
