An exponent of the Vazhuvoor bani of Bharatanatyam, Deepa trained under Padmashri Smt. Kanaka Srinivasan, and has, under her tutelage, "intuited the consummate artistry and effective delineation of rasa". She has performed extensively in India and abroad under the auspices of various cultural organizations and is the recipient of several awards and honours, notable among them being the Natya Ilavarasi award (Sri Shanmukhananda Sangeeta Sabha, Delhi) in 2005, the Lakshmi Viswanathan Endowment Award (Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai) in 2000 and the Dr. M.G.R. Award (Madras Music Academy) in 1995. She is a Doordarshan Grade ‘A’ artiste and an Indian Council for Cultural Relations (I.C.C.R.) empanelled artiste.
