If you cannot get the audience to respond to you, what should you do?

Have a few topic related jokes and short stories with a twist as a backup plan. If you find that you are losing the interest of the audience, try using it, but ensure that it merges with your story line. You could also have a joke about an unresponsive audience, or about a speaker who spoke too long.... ...more
