If you plan to save Rs. 300 annually for 10 years and the discount rate is 15%, what is the future value?

Shambhavi replied | 07/12/2016

Formula to be used is:-
Present Value=Future Value/((1+r)^n), where r is discount rate and n in number of years.
So, Future value= 300 *((1+0.15)^10)+300 *((1+0.15)^9)+300 *((1+0.15)^8)+....+300 *((1+0.15)^1).

If you invest Rs. 1,000 per year in a stock portfolio with a return of 8%, how much would you expect to have in 7 years?

D

Dh replied | 01/12/2016

Investment per year = Rs. 1000
Return per year = 8%
Time period = 7 years
Here the case is of Investment yearly i.e., recurring investment yearly.
Hence need to use the Future value equation under annuities.
Future Value of annuity=> FV = P/ r * ((1 + r)^n - 1)
where, n = number of periods
r = rate of interest
P = periodic payment
FV = Rs. 8922.80

If 6 years ago you invested Rs. 500 and received an interest rate of 4% (compounded monthly), how much would you now have?

Veera replied | 12/12/2016

Rate = 4%= 0.04
Amount = 500
since compounded monthly = no of years x 12=6 x 12 = 72
total amount = 500 x(1+0.04)^72
Rs. 8421.131.
